My studies towards the Diploma of Wine & Spirits with the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) inspired me to draw up a table of the most common grape varieties with details on the types of wines each produces, where the variety is at home and some additional detail, such as common synonyms, ideal soil types, climates etc.

It is 'work in progress' and rather technical in places as it is designed as my personal study aid, but if you're interested you can find it here.

During the coming months it will be updated regularly and I'll try and make the format slightly easier to follow. The colour coding indicates a fairly complete entry. Most of the information is distilled from the WSET study guide and the excellent 'Oxford Companion to Wine' (OCW) 2nd Edition, edited by Jancis Robinson.
