Pieter’s Vinopinions
Thursday was probably the finest day yet this early in the spring season, and it showed in the beer garden of Glasgow’s microbrewery housed in the Templeton Building, overlooking Glasgow Green.
I’ve long been a fan ever since it opened a few years ago. Now you may have gathered I’m usually more than a wine fan, but on Thursday I had my first taste of April fool’s Weizen Bock, a 100% wheat beer made from caramelised wheat. At 6.6% it’s strong but oh so smooth. The colour is like a golden caramel and the beer is cloudy, like a good wheat beer should be. With the late sun streaming in it was the perfect beer to celebrate the coming of spring. And I wasn’t alone in that thought. The beer garden was full to bursting as many dog walkers (like me) had remembered to bring their wallets and stopped for a pint (or two, like me). As long as your pooch is well-behaved they are welcome inside. They may even get a biscuit or two if they are lucky.
And once you’ve tried the beer, don’t forget the wine list, compiled by yours truly... Here comes summer.
